Right of Place Second Chance – our commitment to the future
We at Right of Place Second Chance are a constantly evolving organisation.
From our humble beginnings in 1999 when a group of individuals came together to talk about their experiences for the very first time, to the near 10 year campaign for recognition for the sufferings caused and experienced. Our organisation has been at the forefront in the fight for Survivors Rights.
When the New Board and re-evaluation of the organisation occurred in 2011, we maintained a need to shift focus to ensure our policies, procedures and practices were in line with Best Standards. Having largely achieved this aim, our need to further strengthen and grow the organisation was evident.
For years decisions were being made about Survivors, for Survivors; withouth much of their input – and we reocgnised this.
As a result we gained funding from the St. Stephens Green Trust Fund to ensure our organisation went through a process of being proactive, of looking towards the future and beginning to really impart and effect change on Survivors lives into the future.
Born as a result of this need to grow, develop and use our considerable expertise the following three documents were created to create a clear pathway forward.
These will all be launched in 2016.

Between 2014 & 2015 Right of Place Second Chance commissioned our Social Research Partners “Quality Matters”to carry our research into our clients.
This research was compiled into three areas;
- Client view on ROP/SC
- Client needs & view of services
- Overall wellbeing of Survivors and their dependents
What resulted was a clear message about the types of services Survivors needed and the type of organisation we needed to be. There are also some staggering results within the document about the future care of Survivors in Ireland.
Instead of us just creating a Strategic Plan, this was used to form the basis of our direction over the coming years and therefore ensure Survivors were directly shaping the future of our organisation.
This is a first for any organisation in Ireland supporting Survivors of Institutional Abuse and is one of the largest such research carried out.
This along with its findings will be launched in Q2 of 2016 so keep an eve out for more details as it is released.Important Voices
After the Spotlight
Having reviewed the independent findings of our specially commissioned research and creating a pathway for our organisation’s future we viewed what, at a National and societal level needs to change to truly reflect and impact upon Survivors lives.
As a result of this, After the Spotlight was created.
After the Spotlight is an in-depth look into the long term care and provision of services to Survivors of institutional Abuse. Things like ongoing Healthcare, Government supported research, elder care and the fear of further institutionalism are a few of the areas dealt with within this document.
For the First time, research led, empirical based evidences shine a light on failings of the state and a need to enhance the offerings to Survivors to truly impact upon their lives in meaningful ways.
This forms part of our Strategic Plan as our organisation shapes its future to care for Survivors, we believe the state should too.
This is an exciting document and is due to be launched in Q2 of 2016.
